Altruism and Globalization ...
Throughout this year, an international group of scientists has been working out the existence of any relationship between the levels of inter-country cooperation and technological development.
Basically the research team held two hypotheses. One of them indicated that globalization is creating a sense of belonging in people resulting in the need to find ways to differentiate themselves. For its part, the other postulated something totally opposite, stating that altruistic behavior increases with globalization, as a result of the reduction of barriers is to increase cooperation between individuals.
The research involved participation in a game about resource utilization, in which each player received 10 cards that could later be reversed, at its option, on a personal business, local or global. To do this, 1145 people were selected from different locations geographical, resulting in selected countries such as Argentina, Iran, Russia, South Africa, USA and Italy.
The game was developed under a series of assumptions, under which, if invested in an individual business, the participant kept his stack of chips, however, investment in local business, required the help of three others that would be chosen anonymously and bend the initial investment had been made. Finally, if they wanted to participate in a global business, then formed a number of teams within which were including the three local business partners and eight others under the promise of tripling its investment.
The counterpoint of the matter was that if a particular participant, was the only person to fund a global or local business, or if the other participants put little or no relationship to what he had invested, the business would inevitably in failure.
The resulting pattern found by scientists, shows that those living in more globalized countries such as United States and Italy, have no problem in cooperating with others and invest in global business, while for residents in countries like Iran, with a lower rate of globalization, the tendency is to invest in accounts local.
Although the research team was able to establish a correlation between globalization and the tendency of an individual to cooperate with others regardless of the distance between their places of residence, were unable to find an explanation for the origin of this behavior. Are religious factors, cultural, or politicians who may be involved? ...
